Maternity and Neonatal

Maternity, Neonatal Ward, Jamal Memorial Trust Hospital, Mian Channu

Having a baby puts enormous strain and stress on both mother and baby. There are any number of things that could go wrong during pregnancy, labour and immediately afterwards. It is vital that both the woman and child are monitored throughout the pregnancy and during the birth to prevent serious harm befalling them.

Giving birth at home is risky-conditions can be unsanitary, leading to infection, the baby could get into difficulty, or the mother could haemorrhage, leading to fertility problems, disability, or even death.

In rural Pakistan, too few pregnant women get access to proper antenatal and neonatal care, increasing the rate of infant mortality. The latest World Health Organisation statistics state that only 50% of women had a trained health care professional with them during birth. 9% or all deaths in Pakistan occur during or immediately after birth, according to these statistics.

Our maternity unit will ensure mother and baby get the very best care. Too many women and children are put at risk by the mother giving birth in an unsanitary environment without access to a doctor, should anything happen for the worse. This could be because many families cannot afford healthcare or cannot make the 89km journey to the nearest hospital.

The Jamal Memorial Trust Hospital will house modern equipment, imported from the United Kingdom and the United States of America to make sure pregnancy and labour is as safe as can be. We believe that every baby has the right to be born in a safe and hygienic environment, and that every woman has the right to not give birth in risky situations.

Our Maternity unit will care for women during pregnancy by monitoring both mother and baby, and providing advice on staying healthy and preparing for birth.

During labour, we will be there to help the mother give birth, making sure the baby is safe and healthy and is delivered with minimum pain and trauma for the mother. Any complications for the mother can be dealt with swiftly.

If there are any problems with the baby once it has been born, or if it is premature, our Maternity service will be able to care for the baby with specially trained doctors and nurses.
